Dear Crystal,
I knew your great grandma who never really got the help she needed maybe because pharmacology and psychiatric care had not advanced enough. My mom Hilda loved Patti with true unconditional love. The rest of us could only see what she put my brother through. Reading this I am reminded of Patti’s struggles. After she crashed she was always “really sorry” but we figured it was fake. Anyway. Crystal, thank you so much for sharing this. I’ve always struggled with my weight too and I have to remind myself if it was as simple as “eat less” we probably wouldn’t have an obesity epidemic. I find that no matter how unhappy I am, it doesn’t seem to correlate to or lead me to an increase in resolve or will power. I ask myself “how unhappy do you have to get before you are willing to make a big change?” I hate that you got to that point of unhappiness but I’m also so glad you were able to do big and little things to get you to a happier place. When I think of you, I always think of big happy “Woo” energy…and pirates I love the pictures you shared, especially the ones where you are laughing in your yellow top. They seriously look like a best-seller memoir cover! That smile and laugh looks so beautifully and truly you. You’re amazing!

Thank you for sharing your (ongoing) experience/journey. While a different experience, I have long struggled with (hidden) disordered eating/body imagine issues and dramatic fluxes in “body numbers”, self-worth, comments from those who shouldnt have the right to comment…mostly stemming from child abuse/trauma. Still working through these issues, and your bravery in sharing your story helps me remember healing, while a process, is worth the hard work. Hoping your journey continues to bring you all the health and satisfaction you desire.
